Match Report: VCF Mestalla beat Spanish Footballers’ Association selection in pre-season opener (2-0)
VCF Mestalla begun their pre-season with a win against a Spanish Footballers’Association selection with a Carlos González goal in the closing minutes of the first half and a Chano own goal in the second half to earn Óscar Fernández a winning debut in the VCF Mestalla dugout.
The first half saw VCF Mestalla dominance pressing high up the pitch to win the ball back quickly which opened the floodgates with constant breaks into the opposition box.
Óscar Fernández’s side set out their stalls in attack with clear-cut chances like An Aléx Carbonell one on one with the keeper that he could not finish off or a Pedro Alemañ effort which hit the crossbar following a quick break started and finished off by Carlos Gónzalez following a great solo move.
Despite a raft of halftime changes VCF Mestalla picked up where they left off and they came out looking for a second goal and restricting the opposition to a few arrivals in the box. Chano diverted the ball into the back of his own net after a throw-in making it 2-0 for VCF Mestalla.
